HIRA THROUGHOUT THE YEARS
HIRa needs your support
After a successful couple of years of in person HIRA Intensives, this is where you, our MYNA and HIRA families, come in. With your support, we can provide yet another robust HIRA program to serve 35 students. Your donation will go towards:
sponsoring students’ admission fees and removing fiscal barriers to help them participate, whereas otherwise they would be unable to attend
supporting this quality program that nourishes the mind, body, and soul
bringing in qualified teachers and scholars to impart foundational Islamic knowledge to our young Muslim leaders, and to engage them in critical discussions on their impact in their communities.
HIRA 2023 - fully operational
Hira Intensive 2023 was back in full swing and we were at full capacity mashallah with 40 students who learned from an amazing array of renowned teachers and speakers.
2021 & 2022: Hira returned to
in-person
With COVID becoming the new normal, we worked with new vaccination guidelines to make an in-person HIRA possible! For three weeks our youth learned, grew, and bonded in a much needed break from virtual burn-out.
2020: Hira goes virtual
The COVID pandemic created a challenge for all programs, and HIRA wasn’t any different. We worked to pivot this three-week in person retreat into a transformative virtual intensive that served 26 students from across the nation.
2017: HIRA goes to chicago
We take HIRA’s program to Chicago for an introspective look at the city. 22 students had the opportunity to explore Chicago’s Islamic history from attending the Oriental Institute Museum of the University of Chicago, Masjid Al-Faatir founded by Muhammad Ali, Nation of Islam’s Mosque Maryam, and participate in illuminating conversations that deepened their understanding of Islam and the meaning of community service.
2015: HIRA’s second year
HIRA had its second year at IINN serving 17 youth. Here’s a testimonial from one of our students on their experience,
“I’m so glad that I did this HIRA Intensive! I learned so much everyday while still having fun and making new friends. I truly feel empowered by the knowledge that I’ve received in these past 3 weeks, and I’ve gotten so much more clarification on topics that I was confused on. The discussions really helped me stay on track and focused throughout the academic sessions. Overall, I had an amazing experience, and I would recommend this to anyone!”
hira launches in 2014
Our first founding HIRA committee worked overtime to launch the first ever HIRA Intensive. This three-week retreat took place in Flint, MI at Insight Institute of Neurosurgery & Neuroscience (aka, IINN). A total of 22 students attended along with 13 RA’s and committee members. Students had the opportunity to learn from scholars and teachers such as Mufti Kamani, Ustadh Tayseer Safi, Sheikh Omar Sulieman, Imam Abdullah Waheed, and Ustadh Ubaydullah Evans.
